What is an Oxygen Absorber?
Oxygen Absorbing Packets (also known as Oxygen Absorbers, oxygen scavengers, and oxygen eaters) chemically trap available oxygen from the surrounding environment. They are more affordable AND more effective than vacuum-packaging and gas flushing, which are the other leading preservation methods. Oxygen removal preserves without chemicals or additives. They are non-toxic and categorized by the FDA as GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe).
How is FreshUs different from conventional methods?
FreshUs is specifically designed to protect packaged foods and other products against spoilage, mold growth, de-colorization, and loss of nutrients by reducing and maintaining oxygen content to below 0.01%. This is more effective than gas flushing (which leaves 0.5-5% residual oxygen) and vacuum sealing (which leaves 0.1% residual oxygen), making it a more efficient long-term solution.
Why is Oxygen a problem?
Oxygen causes a number of negative effects on food and other products. It can cause oils and fats to become rancid, leading to a loss of flavor. It also causes darkening and browning, and promotes the growth of fungi, mold, and other microorganisms that can spoil products and even cause harm. By removing oxygen, our absorbers halt these destructive processes.
What happens if a pet eats a packet?
While FreshUs packets are non-toxic, if a pet (or a child) ingests a packet, it is recommended to give them water and observe their behavior for any signs of discomfort. Consult with a vet or a medical professional if symptoms occur. The main ingredient is iron powder, which can cause digestive issues in large quantities.
